SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Woodbridge Middle is not designated as a specialty school; however, it boasts a number of academic, extracurricular, and enrichment programs that make it special place to be! All students at WMS participate in Advisory, a program designed to build meaningful relationships between a student, his/her peers, and teachers.
Woodbridge Middle School is the first and only school in Prince William County to offer an optional same-gender education in the academic areas of math, language arts, science, and social studies. This program is based on research that has shown that there are tremendous differences in how boys and girls learn and teachers who are trained to teach the way boys and girls learn best can increase the rate of academic achievement. WMS teachers have been trained by one of the leading experts in the field, Dr. Leonard Sax, author of Why Gender Matters: What Parents and Teachers Need to Know about the Emerging Science of Sex Differences.
WMS also provides a Student Assistance Program everyday after school allowing for students to have a quiet place to study and do homework. Also, the Seminole Study Program is an after-school program designed to give students additional instruction or academic assistance by the classroom teachers. In addition, a Seminoles Pioneer Program is a motivational, inspirational and behavioral modification program aimed at assisting all Woodbridge Middle School male students with achieving academic success.
ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS
Woodbridge Middle has a site-based Signet program, which is designed to meet the specific needs of our gifted population. In addition, qualified students may participate in extended level classes in mathematics and language arts.
In addition, students are offered high school level classes in algebra and foreign language at Woodbridge Middle School.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES & SPORTS
Woodbridge Middle School boasts a wide array of clubs and activities to meet the diverse interests of our students. A large percentage of the school population participates in one or more of the approximately 15 clubs.
Clubs range from intramural athletics to publications; dance teams to computers; chess to service organizations, and everything in between. Students may also participate interscholastically in a variety of sports. The athletics are divided into three specific seasons, both for boys and girls, so that students may participate in more than one.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Parents are encouraged to join the PTO, which holds monthly meetings and sponsors events throughout the school year. Several parents are members of the school Planning Council and all are invited to quarterly Parent Forums. Parents are involved in an active volunteer program that supports both classroom and school activities.
WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?
